恥をかく / 面目がつぶれる

直訳は「顔に卵をつける」です。

よく海外の報道などで大勢の前で卵をぶつけている映像を見たことがあると思いますが、そんなことをされたらどう思いますか？　

そう「恥ずかしい」思いをすると思います。そこからこの意味「恥をかく・面目がつぶれる」と言った意味で使われます。

A: Congratulation! You passed the exam!
