“beg off”は、「(約束・義務などを)言い訳して断る、言い訳して勘弁してもらう」などという意味になります。
A: Would you like to go to lunch at noon with us?
B: I’ll have to beg off. I’ve got to run some errands on my lunch break.
A: お昼一緒に行かない?
B: お断りしないといけない。休み時間に仕事を終わらせる必要があって。
A: Thanks for inviting me, but I’m afraid I’ll have to beg off.
B: I’ll give you a rain check.
